People call him “Chaliapin of the 21st century.” Burchuladze went through the brilliant school of La Scala, where he underwent a three-year training course headed by famous Giullieta Simonato. The outstanding bass singer speaks with great warmth about his main teacher, professor at the Odesa Conservatory Yevhen Mykolaiovych Ivanov and his wife Liudmyla Ivanova (the singer’s main concertmaster). For most of his life the artist has performed in prestigious opera houses: La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Bolshoi Theater. The audiences in Hamburg and Vienna have applauded the famous Georgian bass singer. After his triumph at the Salzburg Festival Paata Burchuladze reached the international opera Olympus. He sang together with Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Guleghina, and Anna Netrebko. Burchuladze has also taken part in performances guided by such renowned conductors as Herbert von Karajan, Riccardo Muti, and Valery Gergiev. It should be reminded that Burchuladze was the winner of Mocsow’s Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982, together with Lidia Zabiliasta (a soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine). Several years ago in Odesa the Georgian bass singer performed at the concert conducted by Volodymyr Sirenko. And now, on September 8 those talented performers will appear together on the stage of the National Opera of Ukraine. Burchuladze will perform in Kyiv to the accompaniment of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Ukraine conducted by Sirenko. The singer will perform fragments of the works created by the geniuses of opera of the 19th century (the arias from Giuseppe Verdi’s operas and four Boris Godunov monologues from Modest Mussorgsky’s opera under the same title), and the orchestra – overtures from Verdi’s La forza del destino and Nabucco.
