Portrait of the Bard of Ukraine made of... sugar and unique rarities

UNIQUE SUGAR-MADE PORTRAIT OF SHEVCHENKO, CREATED IN 1989

Chernivtsi Art Museum marks the anniversary of Taras Shevchenko with an exhibition of old Ukrainian magazines and books, postcards, paintings, drawings, sculptures and works of decorative arts. Larysa Kurushchak initiated and organized Our Shevchenko exhibition. Most exhibits come from the collection of famous Chernivtsi collector Ivan Snihur. Visitors pay greatest attention to late 19th century books, sugar-made portrait of Shevchenko, created in 1989, and a unique century-old engraving which Snihur called an extremely rare exhibit. It was made in Kolomyia a hundred years ago and sent abroad to Australia, America, and Canada. In addition to Our Shevchenko exhibition, visitors are welcome to tours “Shevchenko in Fine Arts” and “Shevchenko’s Life and Work in the Literature and the Press from Ivan Snihur’s Collection.” The museum offers films including meditation by Andrii Danylchenko and Oleksandr Kovsh The Gene of Freedom, Shevchenko the Artist, My Shevchenko, and Shevchenko: Tales of an Art Gallery. Anniversary events will be held at Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum until the end of March.
