American experience for National Guard

Since early spring, servicemen of the US 173rd Airborne Brigade have been taking part, together with the Ukrainian military, in the exercise Fearless Guardian 2015 at the Yavoriv proving ground near Lviv. The US military arrived in Ukraine for a longtime training mission, which shows interest of the US side in helping our country in a situation that emerged in the Donbas as a result of Russia’s aggression. A total 300 US servicemen are training 900 National Guard men (three streams 300 guardsmen each, with every soldier doing an 8-week training course). The following National Guard units are taking part in the exercise: the Azov Regiment, the Kulchytsky Battalion, special-purpose units Jaguar and Omega, etc. In addition to Fearless Guardian 2015, there will also be exercises Sea Breeze 2015 and Saber Guardian\Rapid Trident 2015 later this year. The US Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, called these events as “not just exercises.”

It will be noted that, in addition to the US, such countries as the UK, Canada, Poland, and others will also take part in the training of Ukrainian servicemen.
