“It’s high taste. And a photographic document of an era...”

Den/The Day’s editor-in-chief always says: provinciality is not a geographical concept. And thus always when there is a “reciprocal movement,” the real support to back an initiative, the exhibition and the reading conferences on Den’s Library books will travel to various cities, towns and villages, and particular attention will be paid to “smaller major cities” of Ukraine. Pryluky – a millennium-old city with a rich past – is exactly such a case. British American Tobacco Ukraine became the partner of Den’s Days there. Within the campaign “Gift the Den’s Library to the School You Went to” the company cooperated with the Charitable Foundation in Support of the Newspaper Den’s Initiatives in order to send our publications to every school and library of the city and provide them with the subscription to our newspaper.

Yurii Rylach, Head of Department on Government Agencies at British American Tobacco Ukraine, comments: “I have long been acquainted with Den. I have been reading this newspaper since I was a student, and it’s just been one of the most interesting publications to provide analytical information. Then I observed as you kept eventually changing the format – in my opinion, you shifted the focus to culture. So, the first reason we supported the Den’s Days in Pryluky is because we know and respect your work. Secondly, despite all the difficulties we have in politics and economy, despite the aggression that we have to overcome, we are convinced that people should focus on obtaining new knowledge, on getting acquainted with cultural trends. Because sooner or later the war will be over and we will have to end it, no doubt, as people with better human qualities. As a bibliophile I enjoy the fact that Den’s Days will include the distribution of your Library’s books. Pryluky might have some regular updates to its book funds, but I guess that this kind of support is extremely helpful for the city.”

Den’s Days there are going to start this Thursday, with the exhibition of best photos of the 2016 Den’s International Photo Contest opening at 11 a.m. in Pryluky City House of Culture. About 11:45 a discussion titled “National Dialog” will start, hosted by Ivan Kapsamun, editor of Den’s Politics section, winner of James Mace Prize, compiler of the book “The Trap,” or A Case without a Statute of Limitations, the first in “Contemporary History for Dummies” series. During the discussion, new books from Den’s Library are going to be presented.

Residents of Pryluky are looking forward to this meeting. “People are going to come and talk,” says Ihor Pavliuchenko, editor of Pryluky. Fortress periodical. Ihor says that he keeps to himself a book autographed by Larysa Ivshyna on May 13, 2004. That was the date of the first Den’s Days in this city near Chernihiv, that many remember. “Thirteen years have passed since then. Now, the new meeting will take place two revolutions after. So there is much to talk about,” continues Pavliuchenko. “Den’s exhibition is a big event for such a small town as Pryluky. This city is a thousand years old, and when this display comes to us, the entire history comes to life – we again feel as a living part of a big Ukraine. After all, what is happening in our small cities is a big cultural process. It is good to have your journalists visit them.”

So, dear residents of Pryluky and surrounding towns of Chernihiv oblast, we are waiting for you from February 23 to March 12 in Pryluky City House of Culture (30, Yurii Koptiev St.). It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entrance is free!
