A very dark comedy

On September 29, Elle, a new movie from the creator of Basic Instinct Paul Verhoeven, hits Ukrainian cinema theaters. The film’s leading star is Isabelle Huppert, a renowned actress of European cinema, two-time winner of Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. According to her, her character “Michelle is a cynical, generous, affectionate, cold, independent, dependent, and perceptive. You can call that anything but sentimental; the essence of this character is her inner strength, originality, and modernity.” The film is based on the novel Oh... by Philippe Djian, which won the prestigious French award Prix Internallie, reports the press service of Arthouse-Traffic. The film has received warm press reviews, with the critics emphasizing the original genre of the work – with humor and irony Verhoeven shed an absolutely new light on an erotic thriller. Incidentally, this is the first movie by Paul Verhoeven after the break of 10 years, and it was shot not in Hollywood, but in France.
