Alter Natura Exhibition of Media-Art opens in the Center of Modern Art
It appears that to be a video-(media)-artist or at least a computer designer gradually becomes, if not a rule of proper behavior, then by all means a fashionable pastime. Playing intellectual beads is replaced with beading electrons onto sophisticated concepts with the help of obedient, though also not simple, devices.
Device, like illusion, is an outdated word. At the Alter Natura (other nature) Exhibit taking at the Center of Modern Art within the framework of International Festival of Media Art, the devices were regularly maintaining and reproduced illusions. A kind of harmony and agreement is seen: an actor makes certain gesture, the machine reproduces this gesture, the spectator is surprised, smiles, and leaves. The monitors, nevertheless, continue to twinkle, the electrons to regularly run in the necessary directions. Practically everything presented within the framework of Alter Natura carries the character of such illusive gestures, more or less humorous, benign, or misanthropic.
