Armenian Motifs

The Jazz Theater musical agency and Embassy of Armenia with the support of the General Direction on Services for Foreign Representatives hold a concert of the Yerevan Jazz Quintet at the Kyiv Officers’ House. The Armenian musicians perform traditional swing and their own national ethno-jazz. There are two brilliant piano soloists in the ensemble: Vagan Ayrapetian and the unmatched patriarch of the Armenian jazz piano Levon Malkhasian. Their excellent partners are Nikogayos Vardanian (double bass) and timpanist Aleksandr Agkhamian. However, young Vardan Grigorian playing Armenian folk wind instruments, the piercing zurna and tender duduk, steals the show. The music performed by Armenian musicians sounded with eastern passion, was ecstatic and emotional, reports Olha KIZLOVA.
