The 3rd National Stepan Nazarenko Competition Photoportrait 2011 has been launched in Ukraine. It was first held in Ivano-Frankivsk in 2007, on the 75th anniversary of Nazarenko’s birth (born in 1932, and died in 2006). This way Prykarpattia’s photography aficionados showed their respect for the patriarch of Ukrainian photography, and their commitment to perpetuating the best traditions of Ukrainian photoportrait art, and go even further. The exhibit is held under the patronage of the international photography organization ISF — Images Sans Frontieres (Images Without Borders) and National Union of Photographers of Ukraine. All Ukrainian photographers are invited to participate. The deadline for submitting works is March 23, 2011. The competition’s jury includes Vadym Kozlovsky (Vinnytsia), Volodymyr Leliuk (Kharkiv) and Dmytro Petryna (Ivano-Frankivsk); it will evaluate submissions on March 26-27. The Day, as a media partner and the jury’s member, will also bestow a special prize on the best portrait photographer (according to the editor). The official opening ceremony of the exhibit will be held on May 5 in Ivano-Frankivsk. Details of the competition’s rules can be found online at photospilka.com and photowest.if.ua.
