Beauty and Grace

An exposition called From Resurrection to Ascension opened at the National Art Museum of Ukraine on January 18, reports The Day’s Lesia GANZHA. This is the second exhibit of a large museum project commemorating the world’s greatest celebrity of the year 2000. The Magic of Three Zeroes was a formal occasion to offer the public a truly unique collection of icons stored at the museum, including rare anonymous pictures dating from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries and treasures like icons of the main iconostasis of the Kyiv- Pechersk Lavra Monastery of the Caves (1729). The best of the items on display are listed in the catalogue “From the Birth to Ascension” done with jealous typographic care. Of course, an icon is not just a picture; it produces a dual effect: beauty and grace. Each has tried to save the world, acting separately. Maybe they will succeed acting together?
