International “O-Fest-2013” (Operetta-Musical-Opera) to be held for the first time on June 8-9
This musical theater project, initiated by Kyiv National Operetta Theater and Bucha City Council, combines classic and open-air formats. The main program includes operetta, musical, opera, jazz, folk, pop music, modern poetry, sound installations, and more. The festival will open in Bucha Landscape Park and will end on the stage of Kyiv Operetta.
The program of the “O-Fest” Festival will feature performances of singers from Austria, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran, France, Romania, Lithuania, Poland, Croatia, Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. Among the guests of the festival there will be world famous music stars, including the soloists of the Vienna Opera Lena Belkina, soloist of the Mariinsky Theater, finalist of the BBC International Competition “Singer of the World” Andrii Bondarenko, winner of the First Prize at Luciano Pavarotti Competition Oleksii Siapin, and others. Popular Ukrainian singer Oleksandr Ponomariov and famous jazz vocalist Jamala will present original music numbers.
The goal of the festival is to promote and develop the art of operetta, musicals, and opera in musical and theatrical life of different countries, expand the ways for international cultural cooperation. The event aims to expand the geography of tours organized by Ukrainian individual artists and groups of artists, as well as encourage the representatives of the European and world cultural elite for cooperation with Ukrainian artists.
“O-Fest in Ukraine is a kind of a challenge of time,” said the artistic director of the Kyiv Operetta Theater Bohdan STRUTYNSKY. “Presenting on the same stage leading musical theater genres: operetta, musical, and opera performed by renowned artists from all over the world, we take some decisive steps towards Europe. Europe has long had a tradition of holding various summer theater and musical festivals. In Ukraine this interactive form of exchanging experience, talents, and emotions as in ‘O-Fest’ just makes the first steps, but we hope that the audience will enjoy our event and the forum will have a long creative life.”
