Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

Faces from The Storeroom

19 December, 2000 - 00:00

Today the Museum of the History of Kyiv is opening an exhibition, the Inextinguishable Light of the Icon, dedicated to the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ. Among the priceless exhibits (about sixty icons), specimens of traditional and folk icon painting of the nineteenth century are displayed. Most of them are of great historic value. Visitors will not remain indifferent to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Virgin Mary of Pechersk, Protective Veil of the Mother of God with Saints Nicholas and Barbara, and also the Archangel Michael, Kyiv’s eternal protector. The central place of the exhibition is devoted to Christ the Almighty. Remarkably, the majority of the icons have never been exhibited before and for years have gathered dust in the museum’s storerooms. The exhibition also offers nineteenth century metal frames.
