FAITH SHOWN WITH LIVING DEEDS Ukrainian churches unite in a solemn liturgy

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

On July 28 Eastern Orthodox adherents marked the 1010th anniversary of baptism of Kyiv Rus'. Having this land baptized, Prince Volodymyr prayed, "Lord Almighty, have mercy on your new servants, allow them, oh Lord, to come to know You as You let other Christian countries know You."

On St. Volodymyr Day, liturgy was celebrated by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Kyiv and Moscow Patriarchates, Ukrainian Autocephalous, and Greek Orthodox Church. A joint service was performed in one of the most sacred courtyards of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Monastery of the Caves. The solemn atmosphere was enhanced by the date being an anniversary of Metropolitan Volodymyr of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who called on the adherents to show their faith through their life and their deeds.

The words offered up in a common prayer and the church bells blended in a dramatic choir of hope for a unity of all Ukrainian churches. At least on that day all were united in praising Jesus for bestowing faith on this long-suffering land.
