On the freedom to be herself

Kyiv’s Wunjo-Art Gallery hosts art designer Iryna Tretiak’s exhibition

The master has chosen a highly emotional name for her exhibition, calling it “Freedom!” The organizers told The Day that the paintings on display exemplify design-painting style. The audience will see the works which the artist-designer created using her personal technique. Subjects of Tretiak’s paintings include recognizable images presented with active use of textures and bright colors. For example, she painted the Eiffel Tower and flowers, images of genre scenes and landscapes not to “take pictures and remember,” but to explore and understand new ways in which she could transmit these images to the audience. Art critics detect “creative arbitrariness” in Tretiak’s paintings, but it is meaningful and based on an entirely clear plan. The designer saw decorative component of painting as the dominant while implementing ideas of the works on display.

“Freedom to be myself includes my attitude to life, my self-expression and the way I see life,” Tretiak stressed. “I enjoy doing creative work which expresses my freedom. It was this ‘freedom’ that was reflected in the style of my paintings. When choosing style, presentation, and form, I prioritized displaying my inner ‘I.’ I believe whatever one does, one has to do it consciously and responsibly, and it applies especially to artists! They have to put their hearts into their creations! Otherwise, they will be just cold empty pictures! Every painting of mine is a little life in which I have put my heart and philosophy, as well as freedom to be myself!”
