“I had perfect atmosphere created for me”

On January 19-20 an interesting cultural event took place in Donetsk. For the first time the founder and chief conductor of Chernihiv Symphony Orchestra “Philharmonic Society,” the initiator of the festival “Siversk Music Nights” Mykola SUKACH visited Donetsk and presented Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky on the stage of Donbass Opera.

“There are many operas and performances for audience under 30 staged in Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theater. Iolanta is staged less frequently, the most recent performance took place on Easter. This time the play was run close to the Epiphany. This performance is very beautiful in itself, has brilliantly kind plot, there are no negative characters here. They all create frantic atmosphere of an unheard fairy tale. It is an anthem to the world, to God the Creator. I am very pleased to have worked in Donetsk. It was my first time here. That is why it was really interesting for me. Everything fit my expectations perfectly. I spent three days in Donetsk. I had rehearsals. When on the concert night I saw the full hall of people and the way they reacted, it was a pleasant surprise for me. The orchestra and chorus were also pleased with my work. Honestly, I would gladly come back some day. After all, in such a short time I met many new people and made new friends in Donetsk. It is very nice. I had perfect atmosphere created for me. First of all, I would like to thank the former director of the Donetsk Opera Valerii Stasevych for introducing me to the theater’s chief conductor Vasyl Vasylenko,” said Sukach.

Chernihiv conductor came to Donetsk on the invitation of Stasevych and Vasylenko. “Now I would like to invite the Donetsk Opera and its chief conductor to Chernihiv. We have already developed a certain plan of actions. In June there will be a piano concerto by Tchaikovsky held in Chernihiv with the principal violin player and pianist from Donetsk participating in it. Vasylenko will conduct the concert together with the Chernihiv Symphony Orchestra ‘Philharmonic Society,’” said Sukach.
