“Karibu, Africa!”

18 February, 00:00

“Karibu, Africa!” is the title of a photo exhibition that opened recently at the Children’s Arts Academy in Obolon. Karibu means “welcome,” and the whole exposition is a detailed report and enthusiastic impression of a trip to Kenia by three employees of the 1+1 television studio, Olha Zemskova, Serhiy Tarasov, and Anatoly Kuzmenko.

The exhibition is colorful and united in its theme. Looking closely, however, one can see some differences between the styles and approaches of the three authors. Olha Zemskova’s pictures are full of impetuous curiosity and delight. This joy comes from virtually anything: a sea star, a huge seashell, unreachable though appetizing (maybe uneatable) fruits, red soil, etc. Serhiy Tarasov’s exultation is of a different nature. He is fascinated by local traditions, costumes, and the African way of life, all of which are different from ours, but at the same time understandable and familiar ( Africa Mama ). At the same time he exposes the gifts of the nature ( Monkey Blues ). Anatoly Kuzmenko, the most experienced and merited among the three participants of the exhibition, gracefully ties together the exotic with beauty and Africa with the whole Universe. His favorite models are butterflies (Soft Landing ).
