On Julian calendar Epiphany at the National Museum of History of Ukraine a transfer of cultural and spiritual valuables took place.
The gift to the Ukrainian people was made by an elderly collector and citizen of Germany, who wishes to remain anonymous. This was because he did this not for personal glory and honor but from his heart and soul. He is the representative of the Our Lady’s Fatima Apostolate in Germany.
Having visited our country with a group of pilgrims, he was struck by the tragedy of Babyn Yar and the barbarism of the fascist occupation in Kyiv. When he returned to his motherland he decided to transfer the seventeenth century painting, Madonna with Child, by an unknown Dutch artist (canvas, oil, 1.1 x 0.95 m.) and eighteenth century baroque statue of St. Joseph in baroque style (wood, gold, 1.1 m.) to the capital’s cathedral of St. Alexander, as the sign of reconciliation and in memory of the victims of World War II. The donor delegated this honorable mission to representatives of France’s Triumph in the Heart International Charity Association, and the collection of National Museum of the History of Ukraine has been augmented with an eighteenth century lithograph on a spiritual theme presented by the director of the Association in Ukraine Stefan Arpad Magyar.
