Mythology in Batik

30 March, 00:00

The Griffon Gallery hosts Kateryna Sendetska’s one-woman show under a poetic and promising title, Names of the Runes. The exhibition displays batiks by the young Kyiv-based artist.

Names of the Runes successfully combines brilliant erudition, caused by her absolutely sincere curiosity, with interesting artistic solutions. The artist enthusiastically and colorfully decorates her works with images from Scandinavian and partly from Celtic mythology. However, perhaps the main unique feature of her batiks is in her perfect sense of proportion in terms of both stylization and poeticizing the material (The Rune Stone). This is why Scandinavian gods (Freya), characters from Celtic legends (Fairy Mab, The Comedy of Life, and Elf), and the eternal symbolic plots (The Stronghold or The Birth of the Stars), coexist within the context of the exhibition quite naturally and organically, united with the single artistic manner and concept of their creator.

Due to her friendly cooperation with the Elf musical group, Kateryna Sednetska got a chance to test herself in one more field: she designed stage costumes for its members, reports Oksana LAMONOVA.
