Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

National Philharmonic Society Opens 135th Season

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

The soiree commemorating the start of the season highlighted all the main features of the Philharmonic Society's repertoire, starring prominent musicians, such as Liana Isakadze, Volodymyr Krainev, and Viktoriya Lukyanets.

The opening performance was rather eclectic and far-flung. The organizers tried to combine the jubilee social art soiree style with the easygoing atmosphere of art salons. Champagne was served in the foyer, and then officials addressed the audience. As the concert began the scherzo character of Western musical miniatures struck a stylistically discordant note with Borys Oliynyk's poems masterfully recited by Anatoly Palamarenko. And the first parts of Prokofiev's and Gliere's concertos and Beethoven's symphonies served to strengthen the overall impression of a musical story cut short in mid-sentence. However, the ten days of jubilee concerts starred a number of prominent musicians, asserting classical music's superior primacy.
