Number of «JFDP» Grants Increases for 2000-2001 Competition
The Embassy of the United States of America announces the competition for the Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) for the 2000-2001 academic year. This year 25 grants will be awarded for a one-year faculty teaching program. This number reflects a 25 percent increase over last year. General coordination of the JFDP grants is provided by the United States Information Service (USIS) and by the American Council for Collaboration in Education and Language Study (ACCELS). Additional administrative support comes from the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). The JFDP is a U.S. government- sponsored program. Funds for the program are authorized by the Freedom Support Act of 1992. The JFDP brings junior faculty from Ukraine to the U.S. for a year-long experience of non-degree study, practical experience(internships) and academic collaboration. The goals of the JFDP are to enable promising young faculty to: чenhance their knowledge of the academic disciplines in which they teach; чacquire new teaching skills and techniques; чplay leading roles upon return to Ukraine in curriculum development and educational reform at their home institutions; чpromote on-going contacts and exchanges between their home and host institutions.
JFDP participants are young faculty (under age 40) who hold teaching positions in a variety of social sciences and humanities fields. Participants enter the program with the intention of returning to their home institutions after a year in America to apply the knowledge and experience gained from the program. For 2000-2001, JFDP grants will be awarded to Ukrainian citizens in the fields of: American studies (literature, arts, history, culture), business administration, economics, education administration, environmental studies, journalism, law, library and information science, political science, psychology, public policy, public administration, sociology, arts management architecture and urban planning, cultural anthropology, history, linguistics, philosophy, and literature. All applicants to the JFDP must be fluent in English, must have passed or have begun work on a Kandidat Nauk degree, and must have between two and eight years of professional experience as a university lecturer or administrator.
