Parajanov will compete for Oskar

Ukrainian Oscar Committee officially announced film nominee from Ukraine for the Academy Award 2013 – a joint film project by Serge Avedikian and Olena Fetisova Parajanov. The Day has recently reported that another two Ukrainian films – Eternal Homecoming by Kira Muratova and Haytarma by Akhtem Seitablaiev entered the short-list of award nominees.

Film Parajanov is the first full-length film produced by two co-directors Serge Avedikian (France) and Olena Fetisova (Ukraine) with the assistance of the State Agency of Ukraine for Film Production in coproduction of Ukraine, France, Georgia, and Armenia, with the budget of two million euros. The film tells the story of an eccentric genius and his conflict with the Soviet government. Press officer of the “Arthouse Traffic” Oleksandra KRAVCHENKO told The Day that the leading role has been performed by Parajanov’s friend, actor and film director, winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for the short film Barking Island Serge Avedikian.

The film was recognized as the best Full-length Ukrainian Production at Odesa Film Festival, it also recieved “Golden Duke” award. World premiere of the film was held as a part of the competition program “East of the West” at the Class “A” Film Festival in Karlovy Vary in July 2013. Now Parajanov has been presented in the section “International Competition of Feature Films” of the Eighth Batumi International Art-House Film Festival (BIAFF) and will compete for the prize of the critics at the film festival in Hamburg.

The film Parajanov will be released in Ukraine on October 3.
