Ukrainian House is hosting an exposition of relics from the special stock
of Lviv's Museum of the History of Religion, marking the first stage of
a new Ministry of Culture and Art project. The project envisions periodic
displays of masterpieces from provincial museums. Lviv supplied a unique
collection of icons from the sixteen through nineteenth centuries and meant
for both Eastern Orthodox and Uniate houses of worship. The exposition
includes modern icons representing traditional and innovative approaches
(such as leather icons). Folk wood sculpture of the baroque epoch and religious
articles attract considerable interest, among them a silver Byzantine reliquary,
select Judaic items, statues of Buddha from monasteries, and embroidered
guild standards, reports Diana KLOCHKO, The Day.
