The exhibition of works by The Day's photo correspondents in
Lviv has ended. The results exceeded even the highest hopes of the most
incorrigible optimists. The Day proved that it is possible not only
to bring back the world of newspaper reading, but also the possibility
to take part in the art of photography, which is has been somewhat forgotten
in this country.
Hundreds of Lviv residents came to see 64 best works by the photography
masters. Each entry in the visitors' book not only titillated the masters'
professional pride, but also testified that the seed of their art had been
planted in favorable Galician soil.
Ihor Kolisnyk, a Hal-EKSPO representative said, "I am grateful to The
Day for being sincere, wise, and kind."
Rostyslav Vavriv, Managing Director of the Lvivska Khvylia radio station:
"Really good. Real stylish."
Ruslana Moskalenko, Editor of the Information Department, Lviv Television:
"Do not overlook the happy moments not only on the photographic film but
also in the upsurge of the creative thought."
The exhibition reached its apex on its last day, November 7, when the
results of the Best Caption contest were announced. The participants (the
youngest of whom was a second grader in Piznaiky School, Dzvenyslava Moiseyiva)
gave their own titles to each picture. Amusing, somber, and serious like
life itself the inscriptions were a good sign of appreciation for the exhibit's
end.
Among the grandees the best description was given by Roman Baran, one
of Lviv's best-known photographers, who classified this event as revival
of the Life Magazine style in Ukraine.
In the near future, The Day intends to take the exhibition to
other Ukrainian cities.
