The contest will be launched on October 24 and will have two stages: the hall of Lysenko Music Academy and Stanislav Liudkevych concert hall of the Lviv Philharmonic Society, it will have three rounds and will last until November 3.

The last round will include two concerts with the participation of the symphonic orchestra. The Concerto for violin and orchestra No.2 by Myroslav Skoryk is mandatory for all the participants. The Day was told about it by the member of the panel, chancellor of the Lviv Music Academy Ihor Pylatiuk.

It should be reminded that Lviv has already hosted art events organized by former Leopolitans. For instance, the Contest of Young Violinists named after the professor of Hamburg Music Academy Mykhailo Strikharzh, held in his alma-mater Krushelnytska Music School. There is also the Youth Music Academy of CIS countries in tutelage of the world-famed viola player Yurii Bashmet (last year the academy “moved” from Minsk to Lviv Music Academy, where many years ago the then conservatoire chancellor Zenon Dashak told Bashmet: “There is no doubt you will be famous...”).

“What attracts former Leopolitans to their native town? Probably, the desire to return to their roots, to their land where they spent their childhood, where they felt the first, deepest emotions of their passion for music, art, the world and studying people,” professor Ihor PYLATIUK said. “Especially, their nostalgic desire to return to those feelings and, what is more important, to give back to their native land something they received. Moreover, they have a lot to give…”

Pylatiuk told that Oleh Krysa Contest will be attended by young violinists aged 16 to 28 from China, Japan, the US, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Russia, and Ukraine, so a very interesting event is expected. Four prizes and five special awards, from 20,000 to 1,000 euros are provisioned for the winners and participants of the competition.

The skills of young violinists will be assessed by the jury including the best violinists-teachers of Ukraine and the world: Krzysztof Jakowicz (Poland), professor of Frederick Chopin Music University in Warsaw and Music Academy in Osaka; Sachika Mizuno (Japan), professor of Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and concertmaster of Yokohama Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra; Gerhard Shulz (Austria), professor of Vienna Music University; Matice Vizner (France), professor of conservatoires of Paris and Lyon; Valery Vorona (Russia), professor, director of Moscow Ippolitov-Ivanov School of Music, president of the association “Russian Performing Art”; Anatolii Bazhenov (Ukraine), professor of Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine and Ihor Pylatiuk (Ukraine), rector of Lysenko Lviv Music Academy. Head of the jury will be the prominent violinist, teacher, professor of conservatoires of Kyiv and Moscow, Gnesins Institute, Eastman School of Music (Rochester, the US), and Manhattan School of Music (New-York, the US) Oleh Krysa.
