Sixth annual masquerade “Carnivalia” was held in Kyiv on February 16. It was organized by the International Charity Foundation (ICF) “Mystetska Skarbnytsia.” Ball gathered about 1,000 guests: business leaders, politicians, writers, film and music stars. This time “Carnavalia” combined bright colors of Ukrainian Candlemas, Viennese Ball, and Japanese Carnival.

Carnival costumes, masks, and desire to join a good cause served as a pass to the magical show. The main goal of the ball was to spread traditions of patronage and charity in Ukraine. The money raised from the auction will be used for purchasing new books for the renewal of funds of Ukrainian libraries, orphanages, and boarding schools in Vinnytsia region.

Beside the traditional carnival costumes, one of the attributes of this year’s ball was Petrykivka design. Paintings, masks, and outfits with such ornaments were used by the organizers to attract attention of visitors to the importance of this topic. “This year Petrykivka painting is nominated to be included in the representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. These are the small steps our country is taking towards the international community, showing its culture, and spiritual masterpieces,” said the president of “Mystetska Skarbnytsia” Tetiana Lohush. “This is the first contribution of Ukraine to this list, while other countries have 10 to 15 items of cultural and spiritual heritage in it,” added businessman and patron Yurii Lohush.

Among the guests there were the director of the Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art Yurii Vakulenko, businessman and descendant of the famous Ukrainian family of industrialists Michael Tereshchenko, pop stars El Kravchuk, Iryna Bilyk, writer Lada Luzina, actress Olha Sumska, and the Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund in Ukraine Max Alier. “I am here for the first time. I like it a lot. It is nice that such events are organized in Ukraine because patronage is not just a modern fashion but an integral part of a developed society,” said Alier to The Day.
