Last Tuesday, the Grandees of Art international project, which has been
much written and talked about, was finally begun in the Lviv Opera House
with a concert by Sergei Stadler, the famous world-class Russian violinist.
While the audience reveled in the music, which Stadler together with
the festival symphony orchestra directed by Roman Koffman was bringing
to life, young Lviv artist and author of a series of portraits of his famous
contemporaries, Volodymyr Kostyrko, was preparing a pleasant surprise for
Stadler. After the performance, Stadler, author of 25 CDs and with concerts
in 58 countries, received as a gift his portrait painted by Kostyrko.
It is interesting that the musician flew over to Lviv with his father
Valentin Stadler, a well-known music teacher. The educator, being sincerely
convinced that there are no untalented children, decided to give master
classes in the Lviv Musical College and Mariya Krushelnytska Boarding School
where he would like ungifted children to be his main audience. Also, Valentin
Stadler visited the Dzyha Center of Culture and the Arts, where his son
Sergei had a creative meeting with interested Lviv public.
Incidentally, whether due to this international project or not, it was
exactly last Tuesday that the Goddess of Glory atop of Lviv Opera House
regained its gilded palm branch which disappeared from its hands some years
ago.
