It has been established beyond reasonable doubt that prominent Ukrainian poet Vasyl Stus did not commit a suicide (as the official Soviet version held), but was assassinated, Levko Lukianenko and Yevhen Sverstiuk stated at a UNIAN new conference after a trip to the village of Kuchino in Perm oblast, the site of the ill-famed 36th prison camp, and where a memorial museum on repressions and totalitarianism is under construction. In the 1980s, this prison camp was wiped off the face of the earth, along with the other Soviet concentration camps, apparently to hide their tracks. Working on the memorial project are former political prisoners and their guards, restoring this living hell behind barbed wire, because the local secret police refused to supply even the layout.
