WE TORE DOWN THE WALL TO THE WEST, NOW LET’S OPEN THE CURTAIN EASTWARD Preparations underway for Japanese Culture Days in Ukraine

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

A ceramics exhibit will open the Japanese Culture Days in Ukraine early September, offering a ikebana of wonderful oriental artifacts to viewers longing for exotic impressions.

The program’s organizers, which include the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine, and the Far East Charity Foundation, consider performances in Ukraine by the Sankai Dziuku Avant-Garde Dance Theater to be the key event of the action. The performance to be shown, Unetsu, has been tested during tours of the United States, Asia, and Western Europe, and, one should think, will also win success in Kyiv. Music-lovers will be treated to a concert by a group playing ancient gagaku music, whose magical meditative tunes were created specially for the Emperor’s chambers.

The Oriental perception of the world differs substantially from Occidental one. It assumes observation and prolonged feeling of an object, a melody, or an image. The Japanese Culture Days will enable us to experience it first-hand, and they will last until mid-November.
