The pre-election battle in Yalta's seventh election district ended in scandal. One of the candidates there is President Kuchma’s son-in-law, Ihor Franchuk. His main competitor, Ivan Shevchuk, the deputy chairman of the Yalta city council, was arrested and is being held in an unknown place. Colleagues of the vanished candidate call this a political action, aimed to withdraw the competitor from the pre-election fight. Shevchuk was arrested on March 2. According to some sources, the first few days he was kept in Bakhchisaray. No one knows his present whereabouts. His attorney is not allowed to see his client. His family does not also know anything about him.
