Aliyev Supports Ukrainian Route for Caspian Oil

However, only as peripheral to the Turkish one.

"How soon the Caspian oil will go through the Ukrainian territory depends on Ukraine. It is very interested in it, and I personally support it," Azerbaijan's President Geidar Aliyev stated in an interview with the Ukrainian BBC service during his visit to London.

However, first of all he meant the ferry link between the Georgian port of Supsa and Ukrainian Illichivsk which is currently designed only for auto transport but will be able soon to accommodate railroad cars and oil cisterns as well. This kind of transportation can reach a more or less high level when tankers are used instead of ferries. But this question remains moot while the Odesa oil terminal remains unfinished. Moreover, a special pipeline between Odesa and Brody has also not yet been built. Indeed, Baku's willingness alone is insufficient. Kyiv's concrete action is also needed.
