Anniversary International Peace Marathon in Kosice

Anniversary 90th marathon will be held in October this year in Slovakia. Representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Marathon and journalists from Kosice came to Uzhhorod to invite Ukrainian athletes to participate in the sports event. According to the organizers, since Ukraine became independent 228 of Ukrainian runners participated in the marathon. Every year athletes from approximately 45 countries participate in this big marathon.

The main purpose of the event is to maintain and develop this sport tradition of the country and also to promote the importance of exercise and healthy life style. Registration of the participants has already begun and will continue until October. Anyone who wants to participate can register online. Janka Burianova, Consul General of Slovakia in Uzhhorod, who was present at the meeting, noted that participants of the marathon can expect visa support under the Schengen agreement. Traditionally, the International Peace Marathon in Kosice is the most significant event of the sports life of the city. The competition takes place on the first Sunday in October each year and brings together a few thousands participants from around the globe. Marathon in Kosice is the oldest annual marathon in Europe and the largest by the number of participants in Eastern Europe. The first race was held in 1924. Currently the main program of events includes marathon, half-marathon, running on roller skates, the competition of wheelchair mini-marathon, relay marathon, and relay race for juniors. Even entire families can participate in the marathon. The organizers also noted that every year politicians and officials from Slovakia as well as from other countries participated in the marathon.
