Askania Nova to represent Ukraine in the global competition “New7Wonders of Nature”

Ukraine has launched a campaign to promote the Askania Nova Preserve and make Ukrainians be more active in voting to support this Ukrainian nominee in the global competition “New7Wonders of Nature.” This was announced at a press conference by Mykola Tomenko, the head of the organization committee of the action “Seven Wonders of Ukraine,” reports UNIAN. In his words, with this aim it is planned to conduct a broad promotion campaign under the slogan “Let us show to the world Ukraine’s natural wonders.” “If we don’t mobilize Ukrainians, we will not stand a chance in this competition,” Tomenko said. The MP reminded that Askania Nova will represent Ukraine in the second round of the global voting platform “New7Wonders of Nature” with 261 entrants from all the continents. The second round of the competition will end on July 7, 2009, and 77 participants will be selected to compete in the final. For the sake of convenience the organizers put the participants of the second round into seven groups, with Askania Nova included to the group “National Parks, National Preserves, Forests.” Today Askania Nova ranks 37th among the 54 participants of the group. Tomenko said that the voting for the nominees is taking place on the official website of the competition (http://www.new7wonders.com/nature/en/vote_on_nominees/), but the difficulty is that it is in English, which may create certain inconveniences for Ukrainian users. He noted that in order to make the voting easier for Ukrainians, the organizers of the national competition translated into Ukrainian the whole procedure of voting and placed it on the website “Ukraine’s Seven Wonders” (http://7chudes.in.ua/).
