The Basics And Eight Years of Solid Reputation

31 October, 00:00

On October 27, the State Committee for Information Policies, Television and Radio opened the exhibition of books put out by the Solomiya Pavlychko Osnovy Publishers (in the photo).

“We hope this exhibition will signal the beginning of our relationship with government bodies,” Valentyna Kyrylova, the house’s director, stressed. “Osnovy has been on the market since 1992, but it is visiting these premises for the first time, and I think this became possible thanks to the personal support of Ivan Drach.” The reason why Osnovy was invited to unfold an exhibition was the fact that the publishers won the three main nominations at the Seventh Forum of Publishers in Lviv. The thick volume of Norman Davies’s Europe: A History, one of the Forum nominees, is mysteriously glittering its illustrious cover under the exhibition glass. The publishers plan to reprint it because the whole press run has already been sold out. This success was achieved not only because this is an interesting and magnificently laid out book but also because Osnovy has made a good name among writers and scholars, printing translations of the best works in various branches of the humanities.
