BP Will Not Build Odesa-Brody Pipeline

06 March, 00:00
By Oleksandr PALIY, The Day The British Petroleum Company has officially notified the Ukrainian side that it will not take part in the consortium being created to build the Odesa - Brody - Gdansk pipeline and Pivdenny oil terminal near Odesa, Vladyslav Tarashevsky, head of the Government Committee on Oil, Gas, and Oil-Processing Industry, told Interfax Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials are negotiating with interested Polish structures and with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to get loans to complete construction. Mr. Tarashevsky is convinced that the consortium will definitely be created this year.

After the decision was made that big Caspian oil would go through Turkey, the main investment flow, naturally, will be put into the Turkish route. As The Day's reporter was informed by Oksana Dombytska of British Petroleum in Ukraine, the company, as a rule, does not invest in building pipelines if there are alternative ways to transport oil. Moreover, the company never volunteered to build the pipeline in Ukraine, Ms. Dombytska added. The rumors of such participation may be explained by the fact that some officials like to indulge in wishful thinking.
