BREAD AND BUTTER FROM BBC

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

British Ambassador Roy Reeve officially opened a BBC Monitoring Service in Kyiv. It will offer news, analytical reports, and documents based on Ukrainian and Belarus media coverage. Its Kyiv office will shortly have 10 monitors keeping track of mass media in Ukraine and Belarus 14 hours daily. The BBC MS and US FBIS (Foreign Broadcast Information Service), jointly collect data using open sources throughout the world and have divided geographic monitoring spheres among themselves. The British service has offices in Baku, Moscow, Tashkent, Nairobi, and now in Kyiv. BBC MS Director Andrew Hills said during the opening ceremony that his company strives to embrace as many information sources as possible, and that the British public is becoming increasingly interested in what is happening in Ukraine and Belarus. Mr. Reeve added that he used BBC MS data even at the start of his career which was, as he put it, his bread and butter, and that he highly values its information services.
