Bureaucrats to Cost Taxpayers Time and a Half More

21 December, 00:00

The officials of state run public authorities will get a 1.5 times pay raise. As UNIAN was told by the government’s press service, this has been embodied in a Cabinet resolution, which in particular envisions introducing uniform labor terms for employees in the executive and local self government, their respective executive bodies, Office of Public Prosecutor agencies, courts, etc.

This document also governs the bonus system for high labor achievements and especially important work, increasing bonus rates for public servants’ and diplomats ranks, and special titles. According to the press service, the resolution was adopted due to the fact that pay rates for state officials have not been revised since early 1993, and by now have become lower than the wages of workers of lower qualifications in other sectors. In addition, there is a substantial disproportion between salaries of public servants, having the same level and proficiency, at different state authorities.

In addition, last week President Leonid Kuchma signed a decree to change the structure of central executive bodies. The decree will reduce their number from 89 to 35 (in particular, the number of ministries will fall from 18 to 15).
