Dnipropetrovsk local authorities took appropriate measures in response to participants in an anti-NATO besiege of a Pivdenmash office building during the recent NATO Secretary General Javier Solana visit to the city. Leftists and members of the Russian community of Dnipropetrovsk met Solana in front of the plant and called him "butcher of the Serbian people". One of them – Roman Karpov, 30 – even made an attempt to burn a NATO flag. He was detained immediately by the local militia and delivered to the Red Guard district militia station. Few days later he got released as the district court slapped him with a Hr 51 fine for petty hooliganism, Vadym Ryzhkov of The Day reports.
