The Cheremosh dance company from the Canadian city of Edmonton, directed by Mykola Kanivets, is touring Ukraine. The famous North American team has performed in Kyiv and Lviv and is now looking ahead to holding concerts in Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. The tour marks the 120th anniversary of the Ukrainian settlement in Canada’s start.

The Canadian Cheremosh shared the stage in Lviv with a Ukrainian team of the same name. Their dancers competed on the Khotkevych Palace’s stage in the so-called “battle” format that involves companies rotating on stage. There were no losers in this contest, as everyone won, including both teams and, most importantly, the audience, which eagerly watched the dance marathon.

Let us remind the reader that the Edmonton Cheremosh was founded in 1969 to develop and promote the Ukrainian dance culture among wider Canadian society. Through discipline, dedication and commitment to the Ukrainian dance, the company achieved phenomenal success becoming the first semi-professional Ukrainian dance team outside Ukraine. Talented, spiritually rich, energetic and dedicated, the Cheremosh is well-reputed for its high artistry and craftsmanship, which have always captivated the viewers. There have been quite of few of these latter, as the Cheremosh toured the USA, Mexico, Scotland, the UK, Bulgaria and even China, meeting with great success everywhere.
