Carlos PASCUAL: The world has not forgotten the Gongadze and Aleksandrov cases

The cases of Ukrainian journalists Heorhy Gongadze and Ihor Aleksandrov are still hot topics on the international scene, while in Ukraine they have lately lost their edge, Ambassador of the United States to Ukraine Carlos Pascual stated on November 21 at his meeting with students and professors of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Pascual stated that these issues had been raised with Ukrainian Prime Minister Anatoly Kinakh during his recent visit to the US. He welcomed Mr. Kinakh’s statement that Ukraine is still working on these problems. Ambassador Pascual added that during the ten years period there were complications in Ukrainian-American relations, in particular, on the issue of American financial aid. According to Mr. Pascual, the Ukrainian side asked why the US did not give more aid. The West, in its turn, estimated the aid scale as very big, but claimed that Ukraine did not know how to use it. Thus, there has been disappointment both in Ukraine and in the West.
