The controversial Steve Jobs

Ukrainian translation of the Apple founder’s most complete official biography was presented in Kyiv

Steve Jobs

Journalist Walter Isaacson and modern technology guru Steve Jobs actually co-authored this weighty volume with a simple and informative title Biography of the Founder of Apple. Laconic black and white cover does not promise shocking details and sensational revelations, as its attraction lays in the opportunity to look at the legendary person from different angles.

The biography is based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs and even more of them that had been conducted with his family members and friends. However, the publishers emphasize that interviews with Jobs’s enemies, competitors, and the colleagues he had cheated are rather more intriguing part of the book. In this way, the book shows Jobs as a complex and controversial person. Interestingly, it was Jobs himself who initiated his complete biography, while Isaacson took to realization of this idea after gaining fame as the author of biographies of Henry Kissinger, Benjamin Franklin, and Albert Einstein. The book received wide publicity in the US and became the bestseller of the year on Amazon.com.

Now, the Ukrainian translation of the book was presented in Kyiv, too. It was published by Bright Star Publishing, and the translation itself had been completed in less than a month by three translators Nadia Herbish, Olesia Kravchuk, and Liubomyr Krupnytsky. Herbish described for The Day her impressions after reading the book: “He was a complex person, and this is a complex book. I have no sympathy for Jobs the man, but he certainly was an unsurpassed IT professional. The book is well worth reading, because there are so many interesting ideas in it that may benefit all of us.”

“An unbiased account of a person can be written only after talking not just to this person’s friends and supporters, but to his or her enemies, too. Jobs was often rude, but his talent was impressive, and he still is a source of admiration and inspiration even after his death,” director of Bright Star Publishing Dmytro Kyrychenko said during the presentation.

The book is already available in Ukrainian bookstores.
