Cossack Mamai will eat hamburgers

3 March, 1998 - 00:00

Danylo Narbut, laureate of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize, has agreed to decorate the walls of a McDonald's restaurant in Cherkasy. The very owners of the firm chose the 82 year old patriarch of painters. The brushes, colors, and ability to work of Grandfather Narbut, as he is called in Cherkasy are legendary. Of course the scale is great, 300 square meters, and he cannot delay the work. As chief architect Vasyl Dmytrenko informed The Day, construction began in February and cannot take more than 100 days. Narbut has been preparing in his studio sketches and materials for the work and will complete his work directly on the walls of the restaurant. The basic motif will be, not the familiar American McD design, but a Ukrainian girl. The master believes that this will be a variation on the Cossack Mamai design, according to The Day correspondent Yevhen Bruslynovsky.
