1829: The Peace Treaty of Adrianople (also called the Treaty of Edirne) is signed, ending the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-29 between Russia and the Ottoman Empire.

1937: The Nyon Agreement is signed in Switzerland, providing for an Allied effort to combat German U-boat attacks in the Mediterranean.

1939: Kyiv-born aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky has his first VS 300 helicopter airborne in the US.

1944: Troops of the Baltic Front launch a major offensive against the Wehrmacht, which ends with a victory on November 24.

1962: An exhibit of Latvian theater and movie makers opens in Kyiv.

1991: The all-Ukraine intelligentsia forum “Ukraine: Sovereignty and Culture” is called to order in Kyiv.

1995: Brussels hosts the ceremony of adopting the Ukraine-NATO individual cooperation program.

1996: Odesa hosts the World Congress of Chechens and the All-Ukraine Congress of Vainakhs.
