1652: Rebellious Cossack troops led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky defeat the Polish army under Kalinowski’s command at Batih.

1922: The All-Ukrainian Office of the State Bank launches the first national grain loan.

1930: An extraordinary session of the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian SSR hears the case of the so-called counterrevolutionary organization in agriculture. Twenty-nine experts in the field receive varying terms in prison.

1967: The one millionth diesel engine comes off the conveyor line at the Serp i molot Works in Kharkiv.

1995: Energy, municipal and transport prices increase by 1.5-2 times in Ukraine.

1996: The last of Ukraine’s missiles are shipped off to Russia and Ukraine becomes a nuclear-free country.
