1918: The Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian (Hetman) State steps down in favor of the Directorate.

1918: The Directorate passes a bill banning sale, mortgage, and lease of land.

1932: The CC of the CP(B)U adopts a decree banning imports and sales of industrial goods in 82 regions of the Ukrainian SSR that have failed to fulfill grain supply quotas.

1934: Twenty-eight Ukrai-nian scholars, writers, and cultural figures (among them Dmytro Falkovsky, Hryhorii Kosynka, Kost Burevii, and Ivan Krushelnytsky) are sentenced to death in the USSR.

1952: The Soviet Pacific Fleet’s submarine S-117 with a crew of 52 is lost on a combat training mission, with the names of the crew members to be made public only in May 1997.

2000: The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Station is closed.

2004: The National Bank of Ukraine cancels its decision to restrict sale and purchase of hard currency after the credit and foreign exchange market stabilizes.
