1655: Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky of Ukraine starts negotiating Bakhchisaray’s neutrality in the Cossack war against the Polish Kingdom (Rzeczpospolita).

1901: Kharkiv students stage a mass rally protesting the tsarist government’s persecution of the writer Maxim Gorky.

1917: Kyiv hosts the ceremony of proclaiming the 3rd Universal (Declaration) of the Central Rada.

1917: The Ukrainian Academy of Arts is founded in Kyiv (currently the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture).
