1653: Muscovy’s Zemskii Sobor [lit., assembly of the land] resolves to place the Zaporozhian Host under the aegis of the Moscow tsar.

1859: Ukraine’s first Sunday school opens in Kyiv.

1921: Kyiv hosts an all-Ukraine Orthodox assembly, involving 500 clergymen and laymen, establishing the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church headed by Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivsky.

1940: The CC AUCP(B) and the USSR’s Council of People’s Commissars (Sovnarkom) resolve to set the Donbas coal mines on a two-shift schedule, along with an emergency team.
