The day when the university becomes a... “bee-garden”
The citizens of Ostroh greeted their alma mater
The celebration of the Ostroh Academy National University’s birthday was held in best traditions, started back in times of the educational institution of the 16th century. And for the 17 years since its revival, the Ostroh Academy National University has something to be proud of, as the institution gained prestige not only on a nationwide, but also on an international level. The Ostroh Academy’s membership in the European Association of Universities, the students’ participation in exchange programs, the abroad training of teachers, high demand for graduates in the labor market – these are but a few university’s achievements for a short period.
On October 6, the Ostroh Academy traditionally turned into a bee-garden with faculty hives and bees – students and teachers. There was a holiday fair on the territory of the university park, where everyone could buy honey, dishes of Ukrainian kitchen, handmade wares made by students, and souvenirs. And the rector of the Academy Ihor Pasichnyk greeted the students in the beekeeper’s suit. For the students willing to improve their academic ranking, there was an auction of points conducted at the fair, where they could even buy personal items of their favorite teachers.
During the celebration, more than a thousand students took part in the action “Embrace the Academy.” The participants joined their hands, lined up around the Academy and thus expressed their love and respect to their alma mater.
Within the Year of the Ukrainian song, which goes on in the Ostroh Academy, the action “Switch on the Ukrainian” was held on that day. Volunteer students distributed free CDs among drivers of public transport and also among the Ostroh city community – the volume of qualitative Ukrainian music represented the history and present time of our song.
In the Ostroh Academy’s underground art gallery, there was a presentation of sculptures Karmeliuk and The Blessing by an outstanding graphic artist, sculptor and decorator Petro Kapshuchenko. The works were granted to the university museum by the famous Ukrainian figure, friend and patron of the Ostroh Academy Bronislava Skorupska. There was also a presentation of the renewed throne of the Ostroh princes, which was restored by the artist Mykola Bendiuk.
And what kind of feast would it be without cake treatment? Specially for the alma mater’s birthday, the representatives of the Brotherhood of students ordered the confectionery store to make a 35-kilogram cake with a depicted emblem of the Ostroh Academy. The celebrations were concluded with a concert of classical music by the Rivne Regional Philharmonic Society.
