<I>The Day</I>’s Chief Editor Honored in Parliament

On June 29 first deputy parliamentary speaker Adam Martyniuk presented awards to representatives of civic organizations, the mass media, public institutions, as well as scholars, doctors, and industrial workers “for their meritorious service to the Ukrainian nation in promoting the establishment of an independent state, safeguarding the rights and freedoms of citizens, fostering democracy and the parliamentary system.” According to the parliamentary press service, the speaker addressed the guests of honor, calling them “the pride of our nation.” Among those presented with parliament’s highest award was The Day’s Chief Editor Larysa Ivshyna. She received a Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine diploma “For Meritorious Service to the Ukrainian Nation” in recognition of her “significant personal contribution to the development of Ukraine’s informational space, coverage of the problems facing local self-governing bodies, dedicated mass media work, and high professional standards.”
