Den was born on September 11, 1996, sired by the Ukrainian Press Group.
As soon as the newspaper came into the world, it already began asking itself why it was not The New York Times, Figaro, or Spiegel. Then came the problem of trilingualism: Ukrainian, Russian, and English. In search of itself, the young newspaper found its identity as an independent democratic publication for our not much older democratic independent Ukraine. And its young heart cherishes the goal of becoming Ukraine’s number one newspaper.
Den is an nationwide Ukrainian daily, unique because it is the only unaffiliated and nongovernmental newspaper in the CIS, printed in Ukrainian and Russian, along with an English language weekly digest under the same title, published every Tuesday, offering the week’s most interesting coverage.
Its daily Internet copy ranks 52nd on the list of thousands of the world’s most popular periodicals. 20% of its readers are in Ukraine, as many in the United States, 6.5% in Canada, and 3.2% in the UK. In all, Den is read in over 120 countries.
