Not so long ago a poetic documentary titled “The Destiny We Want,” by a young Ukrainian director Ihor Malakhov received a prize at the St. Anna Student Film Festival in Moscow. Presenting the trophy, jury head Andrei Mikhalkov-Konchalovsky told the young director that it did not look like his last award. He was right. The film won an international film festival in Gyor (Hungary) in the documentary category alongside such famous Russian productions as Kosakovsky’s “Wednesday, July 7, 1961” and Kovaliov’s “Sergei Eisenshtein: An Autobiography.” Both won awards also, but the Grand Prix went to Ukraine.
