Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty
Henry M. Robert

Distant Victory

10 November, 1998 - 00:00

Another, 55th anniversary separates us from those distant days, when
Kyiv was liberated from occupation by the Third Reich. Yes, it was liberated,
but at what terrible price! The cheapest resource of that war were soldiers
and people. Kyiv and all Ukraine were to face postwar hunger, political
and religious repression along with long years of disorder. Perhaps this
is why now only the veterans celebrate the anniversary of Kyiv's liberation
anniversary, and their number falls with each passing year.
